For senior leadership, policymakers, government officials, and subject-matter experts who are likely to interact with the news media before, during or after an emergency event. (A similar course is also available for public affairs/public information officers.)


Participants engage in a variety of intense and fast-paced practice interviews, including one-on-one, on-camera and remote on-camera sessions. Message development, interview preparation, remote staging methodology and news conference stagecraft is emphasized and reinforced throughout this workshop.

Social Media Monitoring and Reporting

Specifically designed for public information officers, public affairs officers, communication professionals, emergency managers and Joint Information System/Center staff.


Participants learn and discuss: (1) understanding the importance of media monitoring; (2) the role social media plays in emergency response; (3) using social media tools; (4) documenting concerns during the media monitoring process; and (5) employing a continuous strategy of vigilance and response.


This course is a compact but thorough examination of current social media practices and includes gaining an understanding of the significance of analytics in relation to reaching target audiences. Participants engage in several hands-on activities to gain practice in the practical application of social media strategies.
